About the role
Organize and carry out surgical activities, ensuring pre‑ and post‑operative care in line with MSF policies and universal hygiene standards. The role supports emergency and programmed interventions across multiple Central American and Caribbean sites.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate implementation of MSF clinical policies, guidelines and protocols (antibiotic prophylaxis, pain management, thrombo‑prophylaxis, caesarean section, blood transfusion, etc.).
- Conduct pre‑operative consultations, evaluate surgical risks with anaesthetists, and obtain signed patient consent.
- Perform emergency and scheduled surgeries following MSF protocols, including swab counts and proper OT documentation.
- Provide post‑operative care, conduct ward rounds, and attend OPD and emergency rooms as needed.
- Collect and analyse surgical‑anaesthesia data to monitor quality, review clinical trends and report adverse events.
- Participate in emergency disaster response planning, hospital rehearsals and accidental blood exposure policy implementation.
Required profile
- General Physician degree with final specialization in surgery (general, orthopaedic, gynaecology/obstetrics, plastic or war surgery).
- Minimum 2 years of post‑specialisation experience performing multi‑purpose surgical activities, including C‑sections, orthopaedic procedures, skin grafts and trauma care.
- Fluent in English (B2+) and Spanish (C1+); French is an asset.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, internet).

- Approximate gross monthly bonus of USD 1,500 for the first 12 months, increasing thereafter based on experience.

- Per‑diem to cover meals and small personal expenses.
