Transport Assistant

About the role

The temporary Transport Assistant position is based in Port‑au‑Prince within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). The incumbent supports UN staff in the field, reporting to the Fleet Management/Fleet Operations Supervisor under the Chief Transport Officer. This role contributes to the efficient management of mission vehicle assets and related logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in inventory control and asset management of UN‑owned vehicles and equipment.
• Support the administration of transport contracts and purchase orders, ensuring vendor compliance and performance.
• Help implement vehicle redistribution plans to meet operational demand while promoting economy and efficiency.
• Coordinate with workshop and warehouse staff to monitor spare‑parts needs and vehicle maintenance costs.
• Prepare documentation for Vehicle Establishment Committee meetings and follow up on audit observations.
• Assist in issuing registration plates, driver permits, and maintaining driver records.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in logistics or motor mechanics is desirable.
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in transport operations management.
• Valid Category B driver’s licence (copy required).
• Fluency in English and French at UN Level II (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Required skills

• Experience with fleet management systems.
• Knowledge of inventory control and asset management procedures.
• Ability to monitor vehicle maintenance and cost‑recovery processes.
• Familiarity with the UN Umoja accident reporting database.
