Vehicle Technician

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking a Vehicle Technician for a three‑month temporary assignment. The role supports UN staff in the field, reporting to the Workshop Supervisor under the Chief Transport Officer, and is based in Port‑au‑Prince.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled services and repairs on UN‑owned vehicles in line with manufacturer standards.
• Conduct pre‑summer and winter inspections, road tests, and quality‑control checks.
• Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical, air‑conditioning, suspension, braking, air and hydraulic systems using appropriate diagnostic tools.
• Produce detailed service and repair reports and assist in parts identification and ordering.
• Provide vehicle recovery services and monitor the quality of work performed by external service contractors.
• Train fellow mechanics on proper maintenance procedures and advise staff on technical matters.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; a technical or vocational certificate as Motor Vehicle Technician is desirable.
• Valid Category C driver’s licence (copies required); licences for categories D/E are a plus.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in transport operations management, preferably with experience as an auto mechanic and in international organisations.
• Proficiency in English and French at UN Level II (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
