Water and Wastewater Quality Analyst

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti seeks a qualified Water and Wastewater Quality Analyst on a 6‑month consultancy basis. The analyst will support water quality surveillance, laboratory testing, and reporting for both drinking water and wastewater systems across frontline locations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct bi‑weekly water and weekly wastewater quality analyses, adhering to WHO Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
• Liaise with Haitian government counterparts to gather historical water quality data.
• Develop and maintain monitoring schedules, perform on‑site sampling, and execute detailed laboratory analyses for physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters.
• Prepare technical reports, provide recommendations to treatment plant operators, and update the central water‑quality database.
• Train GSF troops and UN personnel on testing procedures, equipment maintenance, and record‑keeping.
• Perform advanced analyses, including forensic toxicology and detection of cholera vibrios and other enteric pathogens.
• Operate and perform first‑level maintenance on laboratory equipment and oversee process control of water and wastewater treatment.
• Support hazardous material disposal and plan annual equipment and chemical procurement.
• Travel to frontline FOBs and battalion locations to conduct on‑site analyses for GSF, Haitian National Police, and Armed Forces.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of experience in water and wastewater quality analysis, including work with vibrios and other enteric pathogens.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken); French is a plus.
