About the role
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking an Air Operations Officer (P‑3) to lead and supervise air transport activities for the mission. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the officer will work within the Aviation Unit’s Mission Air Operations Center, supporting the Gang Suppression Force, the Integrated Office, Haitian National Police and Armed Forces, as well as providing technical assistance to the OAS.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the Mission Air Operations Center under the Chief of Unit.
- Ensure all air operations comply with Air Tasking Orders, Standard Operating Procedures, UN aviation directives, ICAO standards and host‑country regulations.
- Review and approve Air Mission Requests, assigning the most suitable air assets for safety, cost‑effectiveness and mission impact.
- Verify daily Air Tasking Orders, resolve priority conflicts and disseminate orders to relevant parties.
- Oversee routine passenger and cargo flights, special missions such as casualty evacuation, VIP transport and military operational flights.
- Coordinate integrated search‑and‑rescue operations for UN and external aircraft.
- Arrange diplomatic clearances, ground handling, crew accommodation and transportation.
- Conduct aviation risk assessments and monitor utilization of UN air assets, analysing performance data.
- Liaise with civil and military aviation authorities, UN units and external partners.
Required profile
- UN P‑3 level professional with experience in managing air transport operations in a multinational or peace‑keeping environment.
- Proven ability to develop aviation SOPs, budget inputs and coordinate with civil and military aviation authorities.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills, capable of handling complex operational priorities.
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
Required skills
- Familiarity with Air Tasking Orders (ATOs) and aviation Standard Operating Procedures.
- Knowledge of UN aviation standards (UN AVSTADS, UN Aviation Safety Manual) and ICAO regulations.
- Experience in flight operations management, risk assessment and search‑and‑rescue coordination.
