Engineering Technician – Electrical Systems (UN Support Office, Haiti)

About the role

The Engineering Technician (FS‑6) will join the Engineering and Facilities Management Section of the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the incumbent will support electrical engineering operations for the Gang Suppression Force, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti, the Haitian National Police, the Haitian Armed Forces, and provide technical assistance to the Organization of American States.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate engineering and work projects with other units and specialists.
• Manage electrical power generation, distribution and related maintenance services.
• Oversee installation, operation and maintenance of generators, automatic transfer switches, transformers, switchgear, distribution panels, cabling, earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance for UPS systems, batteries, solar photovoltaic installations and distribution networks.
• Conduct site surveys and load assessments to determine power requirements.
• Supervise a team of tradesmen, junior staff and contractors, including performance evaluation and administrative oversight.
• Prepare and analyse performance reports for generators, transformers, switchgear and other electrical equipment.
• Maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts, control panels, cables and protection devices.

Required profile

• Ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering tasks and prioritize work requirements.
• Experience supervising staff and contractors in a field environment.
• Capability to conduct technical site surveys, load assessments and generate detailed reports.
• Strong organizational skills for planning maintenance schedules and managing spare‑part inventories.
