Macroeconomist Consultant – Research Department

About the role

The IDB Group is seeking a PEC Consultant to support the Research Department (RES) in delivering high‑quality macroeconomic analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean. Working under senior RES economists, the consultant will help translate complex economic data into concise policy products for senior management and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes, and Q&A materials on current macroeconomic developments.
• Monitor macro‑economic, financial, fiscal, external and trade indicators and produce short analytical notes.
• Convert findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other publications into accessible policy briefs and dissemination materials.
• Contribute to the preparation and drafting of the Annual Macroeconomic Report, policy reports, speeches and presentations.
• Build, update and document macroeconomic databases, analytical tools, charts, tables and factsheets.
• Conduct research on macroeconomic and financial policy topics relevant to the region.
• Provide timely analytical inputs on short‑turnaround macroeconomic issues as required.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Economics, Finance or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in macroeconomic research and policy analysis.
• Strong written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to synthesize complex analysis into clear, concise messages for senior audiences.

Required skills

• Experience compiling, cleaning and managing macroeconomic data sets.
• Proficiency in drafting policy briefs, talking points and briefing notes.
