Macroeconomist Consultant – Research Department (RES)

About the role

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking a Macroeconomist Consultant to support its Research Department (RES). The consultant will work closely with RES economists to produce policy‑oriented research and analytical products on macroeconomic issues affecting Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes and Q&A materials for senior management on current macroeconomic developments.
• Monitor macro‑economic, financial, fiscal, external and trade indicators and draft short analytical notes on emerging trends.
• Translate findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other publications into concise policy briefs and dissemination materials.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Annual Macroeconomic Report and review analytical sections for policy reports, speeches and presentations.
• Build, update and document macroeconomic databases, analytical tools, charts, tables and factsheets.
• Undertake research on macroeconomic and financial policy topics relevant to the region and provide rapid analytical inputs as needed.

Required profile

• Strong ability to synthesize complex macroeconomic analysis into clear, concise messages for senior audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Experience drafting talking points, briefing notes, policy briefs or similar short‑form policy products.
