Strategic Planner – Secondary System Planning

About the role

The Secondary System Planning Team at National Grid Electricity Distribution is seeking a Strategic Planner to support analysis and investment planning for the low‑voltage (230/400 V) and high‑voltage (6.6 kV and 11 kV) distribution networks. You will work closely with the Secondary Network Design Team and Field Operations to identify constraints, develop reinforcement schemes and contribute to long‑term network development plans.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse low‑voltage network for incremental load growth, new strategic developments and high‑voltage reconfigurations.
• Plan reinforcement schemes for low‑voltage and occasional high‑voltage projects, considering asset replacement and new connections.
• Perform electrical analyses including voltage, load‑flow and fault‑level studies.
• Meet tight deadlines for identifying network constraints and investment strategies.
• Provide technical support to the Secondary Network Design Team and Field Operations Planners.
• Assist in developing tooling and methodology for the planning team.
• Support 11 kV planners with load and customer behaviour data for Network Development Plans and forecasts.
• Liaise with the Flexibility Team and contractors providing network modelling support.

Required profile

• Experience planning load‑related investment projects in line with engineering directives.
• Familiarity with electrical distribution planning processes.
