Human Rights Officer

About the role

The United Nations Support Office for Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking a Human Rights Officer to join its Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP) Unit in Port‑au‑Prince. Reporting to the Head of the HRDDP Unit, the officer will support the implementation of UNSOH’s mandate by researching, analysing, and integrating human‑rights considerations into UN programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct substantive research and analysis of human‑rights issues and events in Haiti.
• Collect and analyse gender‑specific human‑rights data and indicators.
• Integrate human‑rights and gender‑equality dimensions into political, humanitarian and economic programmes.
• Develop work plans and support the drafting of HRDDP risk assessments and mitigation measures.
• Supervise field verification visits and follow‑up on cases.
• Represent UN human‑rights programmes at working‑level meetings.
• Support capacity‑building initiatives on human rights in Haiti.
• Prepare reports, briefings, statements and other communications for policy‑making bodies.
• Provide guidance to junior staff and perform related duties as required.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of human‑rights issues, including political, ethnic, racial, gender‑equality and socio‑economic dimensions.
• Familiarity with mandates of human‑rights organisations, UN policies and procedures.
• Excellent research, analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain professionalism.
• Commitment to gender‑balanced participation in all work activities.
