Air Operations Officer

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking an Air Operations Officer (P-3) to lead and supervise its Aviation Unit. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the role supports the Gang Suppression Force, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti, the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces, ensuring safe and efficient air transport for joint operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all activities of the Aviation Unit, ensuring compliance with Air Tasking Orders (ATOs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), UN directives and ICAO standards.
• Review, approve, and assign Air Mission Requests to the most suitable air assets, balancing safety, cost‑efficiency and mission effectiveness.
• Verify daily ATOs, resolve priority conflicts, and ensure timely publication and communication.
• Oversee routine passenger/cargo flights, special casualty and VIP missions, and military operational flights.
• Coordinate search and rescue operations for UN and external aircraft.
• Arrange diplomatic over‑flight/landing clearances, ground handling, and crew accommodations.
• Conduct aviation risk management and monitor utilization of UN air assets.
• Liaise with UN units, government agencies and intergovernmental organisations on aviation matters.

Required profile

• UN staff grade P‑3 level with experience in managing air transport operations within a field mission.
• Demonstrated ability to develop aviation SOPs, budgets and coordinate with civil and military aviation authorities.
