Outbreak Prevention & Response Officer – Haiti

About the role

The Outbreak Prevention and Response Officer will support Haiti’s effort to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease threats. Working within the LEAP Global project, the role aligns with the U.S. Department of State’s Global Health Strategy and recent Executive Order directives, focusing on multisectoral coordination and community health system resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) in assessing and strengthening outbreak prevention, response capacities, community surveillance, and early‑warning systems at departmental and community levels.
• Identify and prioritize high‑impact public health threats with regional or cross‑border implications using data‑driven, risk‑based approaches.
• Contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of integrated, inclusive approaches to outbreak prevention, detection and response that align with national policies and U.S. priorities.
• Facilitate multisectoral collaboration and the integration of community health workers into surveillance and early‑warning activities.

Required profile

• Experience in public health emergency preparedness, outbreak prevention, and response.
• Familiarity with multisectoral health frameworks and community health system strengthening.
• Ability to work with government entities and international partners to coordinate health initiatives.
• Understanding of data‑driven risk assessment and early‑warning mechanisms.
