Aviation Safety Officer

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking an Aviation Safety Officer to lead its Mission Aviation Safety Programme. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the incumbent will advise senior management on aviation safety and coordinate with civil and military aviation authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage the Mission Aviation Safety Programme (MASP).
• Create and maintain the Aviation Emergency Response Plan and ensure its dissemination.
• Organise and support aviation safety drills and exercises.
• Integrate aviation risk management into UN aviation activities and produce quarterly risk assessment indicators.
• Conduct safety assurance activities, monitor safety performance indicators and propose corrective actions.
• Investigate aviation occurrences, hazards and accidents involving UN air assets.
• Participate in aircraft inspections, evaluate civilian and military air operators, and conduct safety surveys of airfields and landing sites.
• Maintain the aviation safety database and provide safety briefings to personnel.

Required profile

• Authorized to act within delegated authority and report to the Director of Mission Support.
• Ability to work onsite in Port‑au‑Prince and coordinate with host‑country aviation authorities.
