Chief Security Officer

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking a senior security professional to serve as Chief Security Officer. Reporting to the Head of UNSOH and the UNDSS PSA, the CSO will ensure the safety and security of UNSOH personnel, dependents, and assets while supporting mission operations in a challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all security management functions in line with the United Nations Security Management System.
• Prepare and manage the security component of the mission’s budget.
• Recruit, deploy, and oversee performance of mission security personnel, ensuring compliance with UN HR regulations.
• Develop and implement training and career‑development plans for the security workforce.
• Provide primary security advice on safety, crisis readiness, asset protection, and cross‑utilisation of security assets.
• Supervise all units within the Security Section to ensure efficient operations.
• Participate in the Security Coordination Cell to enhance inter‑agency security coordination.
• Assist with country‑specific threat and risk assessments, integrating risk management with program planning.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience (P‑5 equivalent) in security management, preferably within the United Nations system.
• Demonstrated ability to manage security budgets, personnel recruitment, and performance management.
• Experience advising senior leadership on safety, crisis preparedness, and risk assessment.
