Close Protection Officer

About the role

The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) seeks a Close Protection Officer to support the mission’s mandate of political stability, good governance and human‑rights protection. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the officer will report to the Head of the Close Protection Unit and advise senior security leadership on protective operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain close‑protection policies, SOPs and training programmes for mission personnel and protected principals.
• Conduct personal‑protection tactics, self‑defence and firearms training, and oversee equipment maintenance.
• Prepare security risk assessments for principals, residences, offices and activities, recommending and implementing mitigation measures.
• Coordinate close‑protection operations with host‑country authorities and other relevant agencies.
• Lead the Close Protection Unit when required and manage resource mobilisation and budgeting for protection needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Security Officer.

Required profile

• High‑school diploma or equivalent; UNDSS Close Protection Officer Certification (CPOC) or Revised Close Protection Officer Course (RCPOC) required.
• Minimum eight years of close‑protection experience, including at least five years in progressively responsible roles and one year in an international, post‑conflict environment.
• Fluency in English (required); French is desirable.
• Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork and planning abilities in security‑focused, post‑conflict settings.

Required skills

• Close Protection Officer Certification (CPOC or RCPOC).
• Training in military or police procedures, close‑protection tactics and self‑defence.
• Firearms handling, communications, surveillance equipment and protective‑vehicle operation.
• Operation and maintenance of close‑protection equipment.
• Risk‑assessment and mitigation planning for protected persons.
