Emergency Coordinator

About the role

The Emergency Coordinator will lead FAO’s emergency response in Haiti, ensuring active participation in humanitarian coordination mechanisms and delivering timely, needs‑based interventions for food security and agricultural livelihoods.

Key responsibilities

• Represent FAO in all coordination platforms, develop and lead emergency response strategies from assessment to implementation.
• Oversee emergency operations planning, resource allocation, and the mobilisation of assessment and response teams.
• Coordinate FAO contributions to Humanitarian Response Plans, Flash Appeals and donor proposals, and ensure technical assistance is available.
• Support sectoral coordination through the FAO‑WFP co‑led Food Security Cluster and produce advocacy and communication materials.
• Maintain donor relations, provide regular updates, and ensure safety and security protocols for staff.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in agriculture, food security, disaster risk management, humanitarian affairs or related field (or bachelor’s plus two years experience).
• Minimum five years of experience in emergency preparedness, humanitarian coordination or food‑security programmes in crisis contexts.
• Working knowledge (level C) of French and English.

Required skills

• Knowledge of humanitarian coordination mechanisms, including the cluster system and Food Security Cluster.
• Experience in humanitarian needs assessments, anticipatory action planning and emergency operations management.
• Proficiency in donor engagement, resource mobilisation and preparation of funding proposals, HRPs and Flash Appeals.
• Ability to integrate protection, gender and accountability considerations into emergency programmes.
