About the role
The National Staff Counsellor (NOA) provides professional counselling and psychological support to WFP staff and, when needed, their dependents in Haiti. The role is critical in helping staff cope with traumatic and stressful situations arising from the country’s socio‑economic challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver individual and group counselling services, including case management and referrals, especially after critical incidents.
- Conduct regular field visits, produce visit reports, and provide induction training for newly recruited staff.
- Facilitate support sessions for the Hotline team and develop training programmes on resilience, harassment, team‑building and cross‑cultural sensitivity.
- Identify and liaise with high‑quality local mental‑health resources for referrals and crisis support, ensuring proper follow‑up.
- Prepare monthly activity reports with statistical data and maintain the highest ethical standards in psychological service delivery.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in clinical or counselling psychology, sociology or a related field, with at least five years relevant experience.
- Active licensure/registration as a mental‑health professional with a recognized governing body.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and French; additional local language proficiency is an advantage.
- Broad knowledge of counselling practices, strong communication skills, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary, cross‑cultural team.
