Range Conducting Officer

About the role

The Range Conducting Officer leads the planning, coordination and safe execution of live‑fire training events. Reporting to the Training Manager, this role holds independent authority over all safety matters on the range and ensures compliance with weapons‑handling and casualty‑response standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and control live‑fire range events for pistols, rifles and approved weapon systems.
• Develop and maintain range safety documentation, including Action Safety Plans, risk controls, range diagrams and emergency procedures.
• Conduct safety briefings for instructors, students and support personnel before each event.
• Verify that range facilities, firing lines, medical support, communications, targetry, PPE and safety equipment are ready.
• Supervise line operations, firing orders, cease‑fire and misfire procedures, and control all personnel on the range.
• Coordinate emergency response and casualty evacuation with the Training Manager, Security Manager and medical staff.
• Investigate, document and report safety incidents, near‑misses and procedural violations.
• Maintain range, weapons qualification and event records; oversee ammunition reconciliation and weapons issue/turn‑in.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant military, law‑enforcement or firearms‑training experience.
• Prior experience as a range safety officer, range master, firearms instructor or comparable role.
• Proven experience in live‑fire planning and execution in operational or formal training settings.
