Security Coordination Officer

About the role

The Security Coordination Officer will join the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) as part of the Safety and Security Section. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the officer supports the UN Security Management Team in developing and implementing security and contingency plans for UN personnel, assets and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, develop, implement, monitor and update security and contingency plans for the mission and designated geographic areas.
• Maintain continuous communication with security focal points, agencies and partners to ensure coordinated security actions.
• Participate in the UN Security Cell, evaluating the effectiveness of security measures and plans.
• Assess local security conditions, identify trends and advise staff on risks such as cross‑fire, kidnapping, armed attacks, arrests and detentions.
• Evaluate and maintain air, land and sea evacuation routes, ensuring availability of vehicles, aircraft, vessels, fuel and accessible roads.
• Coordinate fire safety measures, including detection devices, firefighting equipment, evacuation plans and fire drills.
• Conduct physical security inspections, manage identity‑card issuance, background checks and entry controls.
• Provide advice and training on residential security measures (window guards, alarm systems, locks).
• Liaise with authorities, INGOs and civil protection services during natural disasters.

Required profile

• Experience in security coordination or related fields within international or humanitarian settings.
• Strong understanding of security risk assessment, contingency planning and emergency response.
• Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including UN agencies, local authorities and NGOs.
• Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of French or Haitian Creole is an asset.
