Senior Analyst - Haiti and Caribbean Observatory
globalinitiative
Job description
About the role
The Haiti and Caribbean Observatory is the flagship analytical platform of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC), an independent civil society organization based in Geneva. It reaches diplomats, UN officials and donors who shape the international response to organized crime. The Senior Analyst leads field-grounded research on criminal groups, violence, governance and illicit economies, writes the reports and briefs that frame decisions in Port-au-Prince and other capitals, and coordinates the research of others. The primary focus is Haiti, with scope to extend work across the Caribbean Basin. The contract is a one-year fixed term with possible extension or renewal.
Key responsibilities
- Produce original, in-depth qualitative analysis on criminal groups, violence, political developments and the political economy of crime in Haiti.
- Draft policy reports and policy briefs, from concept to final text, with a high degree of autonomy.
- Coordinate the research of colleagues, researchers and consultants and turn their contributions into publication-ready reports.
- Carry out demanding fieldwork in Haiti and maintain a network of interlocutors to access reliable information.
- Brief, present and represent GI-TOC to diplomats, UN officials, donors and civil society at key meetings and conferences.
- Help shape the Observatory's research agenda and develop new thematic and regional lines of work in the Caribbean.
- Contribute to proposals and donor reporting.
Required profile
- At least five years of professional experience in think tanks, the United Nations or policy work.
- Master's degree or PhD in political science, international relations, security studies, social sciences or a related field.
- Proven record of writing complete policy reports and briefs; a strong qualitative profile is the core requirement, with quantitative skills and a researcher profile as assets.
- Availability and readiness for fieldwork and regular travel to Haiti; GI-TOC provides safety and security support.
Required skills
- Fluent spoken and written English; French and Haitian Creole strongly desirable.
- Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and work across time zones.
- Sound judgment, discretion on sensitive information and the ability to engage credibly at a senior level.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Applications are submitted through the organization's online application system.
