Chief of Unit, Air Operations

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Air Operations Unit. Based in Port‑au‑Prince, the Chief of Unit, Air Operations will oversee all aviation activities supporting joint operations with the Gang Suppression Force, the Haitian National Police, and other partners.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the Air Operations Unit, ensuring compliance with Air Tasking Orders, UN aviation manuals, ICAO standards and host‑country AIPs.
• Provide reliable, cost‑effective air transport for passengers, cargo and dangerous goods, while resolving conflicting priorities.
• Oversee aviation risk management and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Offer technical advice on air transport matters to mission components and liaise with civil and military authorities.
• Coordinate search‑and‑rescue coverage for UN and external transport assets.
• Prepare operational plans, performance reports and respond to audit findings.
• Develop, implement and monitor standard operating procedures and quality‑control processes for aviation.

Required profile

• Senior professional (UN P‑4 level) with experience managing air transport operations in complex field missions.
• Proven ability to develop and manage unit budgets and human‑resource functions.
• Experience coordinating with host‑country civil and military authorities.
• Familiarity with UN aviation standards, ICAO regulations and humanitarian air transport.
