Medical Assistant – Public Health & HIV/AIDS

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti is seeking a Medical Assistant specialized in public health and HIV/AIDS to support disease surveillance, outbreak response, and HIV post‑exposure prophylaxis programmes. The role is temporary, reporting to the Public Health Officer and working within the Medical Services Section.

Key responsibilities

• Support surveillance, investigation and outbreak control using health databases and epidemiological tools.
• Deliver public‑health and HIV/AIDS education, confidential counselling, testing referrals and anti‑stigma activities.
• Maintain the HIV Post‑Exposure Prophylaxis Programme, monitor kit readiness and report gaps.
• Coordinate patient referrals, specialist consultations, hospitalisations and medical clearances for mission staff.
• Compile monthly clinical and public‑health data, produce reports and perform on‑call duties as required.

Required profile

• Registered professional nurse with a Baccalaureate or accredited diploma; national registration and license required.
• Minimum six years of progressive clinical experience in general nursing, emergency care and health administration.
• Fluency in English (required); French at UN Level II is desirable.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support and CPR certification.
• Ability to operate ECG machines and glucometers.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Training in UN Buddy First Aid Master Trainer (desirable).
• Experience with epidemiological tools and health‑surveillance databases.
