Mechanic Assistant SSA-2

About the role

The Mechanic Assistant will support the repair and maintenance of light vehicles, trucks and generators essential for WFP operations in Gonaïves, Haiti. The role reports to the Fleet and Garage Officer and the Sub‑Office Chief.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on light vehicles, trucks and generators, including major components such as gearboxes, engines, suspension, brakes and air‑conditioning.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical failures and decide on part replacement or repair.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance for all mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Maintain workshop cleanliness, manage tools, and ensure proper storage of parts and consumables.
• Prepare parts requisitions, receive and issue inventory, and keep stock records up to date.
• Generate daily garage reports and update service documents in the fleet management system.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or higher in automotive mechanics, electromechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of progressive experience in automotive and electrical maintenance.
• Fluency in French; English is an asset.

Required skills

• Automotive mechanical repair (engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension).
• Electrical diagnostics and repair, including vehicle HVAC systems.
• Generator and motorcycle maintenance.
• Welding and tire repair.
