Vehicle Technician (UNSOH)

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is recruiting a Vehicle Technician to inspect, service and repair vehicles assigned to the office safely and in a timely manner. The work ensures accurate maintenance and repair records, clear reporting of faults and quality checks that support the safe return of vehicles to service. The position is based in Port-au-Prince, in person, for an expected duration of 6 months.

Key responsibilities

• Service and repair vehicles according to manufacturer standards, maintenance schedules and workshop procedures.
• Carry out vehicle inspections, including seasonal and preventive maintenance, and identify defects needing correction.
• Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Repair electrical, air-conditioning, suspension, braking, air and hydraulic systems where applicable.
• Follow safety procedures when repairing vehicles and fitting parts.
• Identify spare parts needed and give technical information to support parts planning.
• Prepare accurate records of servicing, inspections, repairs, parts used and maintenance status.
• Conduct road tests and quality-control checks after repairs.
• Monitor the quality of body, electrical and mechanical work done by external contractors.
• Advise colleagues on vehicle maintenance and repair, and train less experienced mechanics on the job.
• Assist with vehicle recovery services when safe and appropriate.
• Report maintenance progress, repair status and outstanding defects to the Workshop Supervisor or designated supervisor, and perform other duties assigned.

Required profile

• A technical or vocational certificate/diploma as a motor vehicle technician or equivalent.
• At least three years of professional experience in vehicle servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repair.
• Fluency in French and Creole at UN Level II; knowledge of English is desirable.
• Valid national driving licence.
